Startups present solutions to society's challenges

Shoots who took the challenge of finding solutions to urgent social problems will take to the stage in Gróska's auditorium and present their solutions in front of a sitting panel, Svana Gunnarsdóttir at Frumtak and Kristján Schram at Instrument. On stage are Idea Makers, Ylur, BioBuilding, Orb, Fort, On To Something, Ring Heat, Leaf and Sara – a steppe with ADHD.

Start-ups under the guidance of the community accelerator, Smart Engineering in partnership with MIT designX, have been working hard to complete their solutions to community challenges since August. The founders of the start-ups addressed different aspects of their start-up structure, from needs and skill analysis, design of a sustainable business model, pine making losses and budgets to networking and conduct.

The results of the work will be shown in the Gróska auditorium on December 7th, an event open to all who are concerned with the challenges of society, where we will hear future solutions to the community's call for change.

"The shoots that will now appear before this excellent panel in Sportta's auditorium have undergone a lot of rigorous umbilical examination, but the challenges posed by the community are challenging issues. I'm very excited about the final day of Smart Speech, but there has been no mistaking the fact that these founders are passionate about social change," says Kolfinna Kristínardóttir, project manager of Smart Speech.

The beginning of everything is to educate and inform about the many societal problems we need to tackle, but the shoots have everything from having core their solutions to promoting them taken a step further. The process is long and rigorous but KLAK takes responsibility by promoting positive change in all areas and all aspects of society by encouraging start-ups to find solutions in the community accelerator Startup Social.

Svafa Grönfeldt at MIT designX has since Startup Social began following and guiding the start-up companies with education and advice. The startups have also brought in other experts from MIT designX, but US entrepreneur Yscaira Jimenez came to Iceland and shared her knowledge in the workshops of Smart Speech, which is the focal point of the accelerator. The startups have also received the loyal assistance of mentors from Icelandic business world, who have played a certain key role since their inception and have given founders further opportunities to expand and thrive.

The community accelerator, Startup Social□ managed KLAK and Höfði Peace Center, has offered the shoots at various stages constructive workshops in Startup Social but the sponsors are Origo, the City of Reykjavík, Landsvirkjun, Marel, Deloitte, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour and HVÍN.
