Gulleggissin 2025 final: Sagareg won

On Friday, February 14th, the finals of Gulleggsinn 2025, the country's largest entrepreneurial competition, took place, where innovative business ideas delighted guests in the hall and were broadcast live on visir.is. The competition was held in Gróska's festival hall, where the atmosphere was electrifying and the competitors wowed the audience and judges.

Winners of the Golden Egg 2025​

1st place – Sagareg:

2,000,000 ISK in prizes from Landsbanki.

The winner was introduced by Logi Einarsson, Minister of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education.

History simplifies the creation of application documents (dossiers) for marketing authorization of medicines using artificial intelligence and specialized software. The solution automates text writing, table creation and quality control, ensuring faster and more reliable applications to health authorities.

2nd Place – What Now?:

1,000,000 ISK in prize money from Landsbanki, presented by Sara Pálsdóttir, Director of Communications and Culture at the bank.

What now? provides comprehensive services to bereaved families that simplify the process following the death of a loved one. The service supports bereaved families during difficult times, increases efficiency, and helps them return to society sooner. The name refers to the common question that arises in such situations: “What now?”

They also received special awards from KPMG: 20 hours of counseling, presented by Anna Guðrún Gunnlaugsdóttir.

3rd place – Samvís

Mutual reference develops a new generation of search engines for scientists and students using artificial intelligence technology. The solution facilitates access to research and creates a bridge between science and society.

Samvís was also selected as the university team that will represent Iceland in Athens for an international entrepreneurship competition. JA Iceland, introduced by Petra Bragadóttir, Managing Director JA Iceland.

Special prizes from sponsors

Special recognition was given for most popular team 2025, chosen by vote of guests and viewers:

Plant They received an award for a solution that makes it easier for groups of friends to find a common time to meet. Coca-Cola in Iceland provided the team with marketing advice from Atli Sigurður Kristjánsson, the company's marketing manager, while the award was presented by Anna Regína Björnsdóttir, CEO of Coca-Cola Iceland.

Grow up finally offered a three-month position in the Greenhouse, provided by Sigurður Ólafsson. That prize went to pilot block, which has developed an operating system for street lighting, based on open source software that is simple and cost-effective to operate.

Panel deepens the discussion

The competition also featured a special panel that asked the teams questions to deepen their understanding of their projects:

Eythór Máni Steinarsson, founder of Hopp and mentor in KLAK VMS. He won second place in the Gulleggin in 2018 with the idea Greiði.

Ragnheidur H. Magnusdottir, angel investor and founder of Nordic Ignite, as well as being the CEO of Maggar.

 

Honorary Award 2025 – Meniga

Finally got Meniga Gulleggisn Honorary Award 2025 for their outstanding contribution to Icelandic entrepreneurship. Meniga participated in the Gulleggin in 2009, was among the top 10 but did not win a prize. Since then, they have achieved great success and established themselves as a leading company in their field. Sigríður Mogensen, Chairman of the Board of KLAK, presented the award, and Ásgeir Ö. Ásgeirsson, Viggó Ásgeirsson and Georg Lúðvíksson, founders of Meniga, accepted it and addressed the audience.

The Golden Egg 2025 highlights the importance of entrepreneurship in Iceland and demonstrates how crucial the support of sponsors and experts is for the continued development of new ideas. The competition shows that Icelandic entrepreneurship is flourishing and the future is full of exciting opportunities.
