Gunnar Tryggvason, Port Manager of Faxaflóahafn and Ásta Sóllilja Guðmundsdóttir, Managing Director of KLAK Icelandic Startups, recently signed a cooperation agreement on the support of Faxaflóahafn with the business accelerator Startup Tourism, which has been awakened from hibernation and will start next October 28.
With the agreement, Faxaflóhafnir supports the development of Icelandic tourism, while the accelerator is intended to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of tourism, strengthen the foundations of new companies, increase the number of recreational opportunities, promote technological advancement in tourism and promote the distribution of tourists from all over the country, all year round.
"The history of Faxaflóa ports spans over a hundred years of development at Faxaflóa and is at the same time intertwined with societal changes in Iceland as a leading port. Major changes have taken place in the operations of the Faxaflóa ports in the last decade, where activities related to tourism now account for around a quarter of the port's income - therefore it is important that the port promotes innovation in that sector to ensure continued development for the benefit of society".
Says Gunnar Tryggvason, port manager.
"KLAK supports startups in Iceland by offering business accelerators, such as Startup Tourism, to entrepreneurs free of charge. This would only be possible with the help of powerful sponsors such as Faxaflóhafn. We are very happy to have the company with us in this project".
