Over 40 startup teams signed up to play in the Superclass Startup Supernova, which took place in Sykursal in Gróska last weekend. The goal of the Superclass workshops was to prepare the teams to apply to the Startup Supernova accelerator, which will be run for the fifth time after Verslunarmannahelgi.
Experienced people from the entrepreneurial scene and various experts from the business world came to share their knowledge and help the start-up teams make an 18-month action plan for their projects. Among the speakers were Margrét Tryggvadóttir, entertainment manager and CEO of Nova, who emphasized in her speech the importance of building a strong cohesive team, Tryggvi Þorgeirsson, manager and co-founder of Sidekick Health, who reviewed how best to get customers and scale the company, and Jason Zhangxiaoyu, country manager Huawei Iceland educated those present about the opportunities that 5G technology offers, but teams that are developing solutions related to 5G and electronic communication technology are especially encouraged to apply for this year's Supernova accelerator.
"When we run workshops like Superclass, we can see how much growth there is in the innovation scene in Iceland. It was especially pleasing to see how diverse a group attended this year's Superclass, as about 30% participants were of foreign origin. We are looking forward to reading the applications for the accelerator, but the application deadline is June 23, and the ten teams that will receive a place in the accelerator will then be announced on the following July 11," says Magnús Daða Eyjólfsson, project manager of the Startup Supernova accelerator at KLAK-Icelandic Startups.
Startup SuperNova is managed by KLAK - Icelandic Startups in collaboration with Nova and Huawei with support from Gróska ideokadahús, but it is a six-week business accelerator with a focus on business solutions that can scale internationally.
