Business accelerator for entrepreneurs
in tourism

The goal of Startup Tourism is to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of tourism, strengthen the foundations of new companies, increase the number of entertainment options, promote the technologicalization of tourism and promote the distribution of tourists from around the country, all year round.

Opportunities in tourism throughout the country

 

 

 

 

The goal of the accelerator is to encourage innovation in the field of tourism, strengthen the foundations of new companies, increase the number of recreational opportunities, promote technological advancement in tourism and promote the distribution of tourists from all over the country, all year round.

 

Agenda

Up to ten companies will be selected to participate. They get access to a fully equipped office space during the project and have the opportunity to enjoy education and training and further develop their business ideas under the guidance of experienced entrepreneurs, investors, key players in the field of tourism and other experts and managers, free of charge.

Startup Tourism is a five-week business accelerator divided into five two-day sessions. They take place on Mondays and Tuesdays in Gróska in Reykjavík and through teleconferencing equipment. 

The accelerator starts October 28 and ends with a glorious final day that November 27th

Universe

Alheimur is a science center that contains interactive and interesting content about the nature of science and technology. At Alheimur, entertainment and education are integrated to create a unique experience.

True Arctic Travel tourism aims to ensure that travelers can enjoy the Arctic nature (Northern Trail) and travel there in a sustainable way and without creating encroachment on the places where they travel. 

HotSheep focuses on so-called last-minute bookings of experiences. Trips are filled up by offering attractive discounts when it's close to departure. With this, the tour operator gets better utilization and the tourist gets a better price.

The project is about giving foreign tourists the opportunity to rent good outdoor clothing at an affordable price during their stay. 

Nord Temp

A Nordic employment center that connects companies in the tourism industry with skilled workers. The platform streamlines the hiring process for jobs where working hours and shifts are flexible, ensuring companies can quickly find skilled workers when they need them most.

 

PMU (Pick Me Up)

PMU is a customized software for tourism that increases the efficiency of shuttle services for tourists. The user can make use of a guide that makes it easier for him to find his stop and ensures that he is in the right place. The stamp shows that the customer was present at the right time and place in the event that the bus leaves without him.

Snotra Sustainability

Snotra is developing a SaaS-based AI solution to empower the tourism industry, ensuring compliance with EU sustainability policies and industry standards through data collection and distributed, interactive training aimed at increasing overall engagement in tourism sustainability.

Guyde

Guyde is a voice-activated navigation app that, with the help of artificial intelligence and speech synthesis technology, provides companionship and guidance to travelers in private and rental cars according to their location and personal preferences.

Adventure properties

Ævintýraeignir plans to make a new destination in the South, specifically Reynisfjall near Vík in Mýrdal. The intention is to improve access and safety with markings and bars for cyclists and pedestrians. Improve accessibility with bus trips up the mountain. (also for the disabled) Improve safety by having a resting place on the mountain with toilets and refreshments.

 

Mentors

Mentoring service KLAK – Icelandic Startups, KLAK VMS is one important link in the StartupTourism support system. 

The KLAK VMS mentoring system is based on the concept of the MIT Venture Mentoring Service, which has been in development at MIT University in Boston for over two decades. StartupTourism participants will meet several times with a mentoring team of two to five people during the accelerator and after it ends.

Steering committee

Sponsors' representatives form the project's steering committee. The project's steering group is, among other things, involved in reviewing applications and selecting the business ideas that are offered participation in the accelerator.
