Successful Startup Tourism Introductory Tour – application deadline is October 13th!

In recent days, the KLAK team has been on the road, visiting all parts of the country to promote the Startup Tourism business accelerator, which will launch at the end of October.

First Startup Tourism promotional event took place at the ESSO Museum in Reykjavík on September 26th, and this lunchtime event was well attended by interested entrepreneurs and members of the tourism and innovation support network, surrounded by interesting artifacts that reminded us of the long history of tourism in Iceland.

The event set the tone for the round trip, which began on September 30th with two introductory events in the south of Iceland, one in Selfoss and the other in Vík í Mýrdal. The following day, events with the same format were held at the Berjaya hotels in Höfn and Egilsstaðir, and the team then continued north and stayed in the Mývatn region. On October 2nd, an introductory event was held at Berjaya in Akureyri, where the Startup Tourism accelerator was presented and former accelerator participant María Pálsdóttir from Hælinu shared her experience.

Sauðárkrókur and Akranes were then visited on the last day of the actual round trip and were well received. On Tuesday, October 8, an introductory meeting was held at the premises of the Association of Municipalities in Suðurnes in Ásbrú and on October 9, the last meeting in this series of introductory meetings was held in Ísafjörður.

The KLAK team would like to thank everyone for their warm welcome at each location. There is great value in meeting entrepreneurs, representatives from the business community and the innovation support environment from all over the country and creating a platform for networking and active conversation. There has been a lot of growth in the tourism industry in recent years and there are countless opportunities for business accelerators aimed at the industry.

Applications for the Startup Tourism accelerator were open until October 13th, and up to 10 teams will be selected to participate. The successful teams will be announced on Thursday, October 17th, and the accelerator will begin on October 28th.

Startup Tourism sponsors made it possible for the KLAK team to go on this promotional tour around the country, including Berjaya Iceland Hotels, Icelandair, N1, Icelandia, the Ministry of Culture and Trade, and Faxaflóahafnir, in addition to the Icelandic Travel Cluster / Iceland Tourism and Íslandsstofa joining the project as partners.

Finally, special thanks go to Blue Car Rental, whose elegant car got the team safely between locations.
