Over 700 university students attended Gullegg's science trip in Gróska, making it the most crowded science trip in the country to date, as far as is known. Gulleggið, the biggest and oldest entrepreneurial competition in the country under the care of KLAK - Icelandic Startups is now taking place for the 16th time, but among the well-known companies that have taken their first steps in Gulleggið we can mention Controlant, Meniga, PayAnalytics and Solid Clouds.
Gullegg's main sponsor is Landsbankinn, which has been involved in the project from the beginning, but other sponsors include the City of Reykjavík, HVIN, Marel, Origo, Advania, KPMG, Frumtak, Controlant, Iðunn, Rarik, Ölgerðin, Vörður, Hugverkastofa, Íslandstofa, Téknísvéðisfóður as well as the University of Iceland and Reykjavík University. The big trumpets were blown when the lavish and eye-catching promotional booths of sponsors were set up on the pedestrian street of Gróska, but at the peak it was difficult to get between the booths because of the university students.
Fewer people made it to Gróska's festival hall when Kristín Soffía Jónsdóttir, executive director of KLAK, presented Gulleggin's scientific journey in front of a packed hall, thereby setting the tone for what was to come in Gulleggin. Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, Minister of University, Industry and Innovation and "Minister of Gullegg" gave an inspiring speech about innovation to the great joy of those present. Andri Þór Guðmundsson, CEO of Ölgerðirn and representatives from Marel, Sveinn Kjarval, project manager and Hildur Einarsdóttir, automation manager, delivered encouraging talk about the most important things related to entrepreneurship and innovation.
The star duo of Úlfur Úlfur, Helgi Sæmundur Guðmundsson and Arnar Freyr Frostason stepped up to Gróðurvegg Gróska's famous Plantation Wall and did everything wrong when they took the song after the opening of Gullegg's scientific journey.
