Hringiða, KLAK's six-week business accelerator for green startups, officially begins on April 7. This time, seven teams were selected to participate from a number of strong applications. In the coming weeks, the teams will further develop their solutions and prepare them for the market with the help of KLAK, experienced mentors and industry experts.
The goal of Hringiðu is to support the development of strong companies based on green solutions and sustainability. The accelerator is an important platform for entrepreneurs working on innovation that supports the circular economy, reduces waste, improves resource utilization and contributes to a sustainable future. Participants gain access to a broad network of mentors from the business community and targeted training in the development of start-ups.
Hringið's sponsors are Terra, Faxaflóahafnir, the City of Reykjavík, the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change and the Confederation of Icelandic Industries.
During the accelerator, teams participate in an ambitious program that supports them in shaping their business models, development plans and next steps. The accelerator concludes with an investor day on May 20th, where the projects will be presented to investors and other key players in the green and sustainable business world.
The teams in Hringiða 2026 are:
Araxeni
Weaving a new future from biotechnologically produced spider silk instead of plastic for fisheries, textiles and other sectors. The solution simplifies the production process, lowers costs and significantly reduces environmental impact.

E-LISA
A software solution that reduces risk in geothermal development and ensures that wells deliver reliable and predictable performance. The system optimizes energy production from each well by selectively increasing the permeability of rock formations.
JORDAN
A cost-effective and automated quality management system that enables smaller food manufacturers to manage their production in one place. The system integrates hardware and software with machine language technology to reduce errors and increase transparency.

Loopable
Closing the loop by shredding waste textiles and turning them into high-quality knitting yarn and filling for home furnishings. The project tackles the growing problem of textile waste and creates new value from materials that would otherwise go to waste.
Navigation tag
Connecting owners and finders of lost items with a simple QR code system to extend the life of clothing and equipment. This solution helps people make better use of their belongings and reduces the need for new purchases by facilitating recovery.

Soil Lagoon
Plans to build Iceland's first soil remediation plant that uses geothermal water to clean contaminated soil. This infrastructure will enable domestic environmental problems to be addressed instead of transporting soil out of the country for disposal.
Thermal Beets Records
Produces sustainable vinyl records from sugar beets instead of traditional PVC plastic using Icelandic green energy. The goal is to make music publishing more environmentally friendly and build a modern record pressing industry in this country.

There is great anticipation for the coming weeks and it will be exciting to follow the progress of these progressive projects, which all have one thing in common: wanting to contribute to a greener future in Iceland.
